Reminder: REI Super Clearance starts tomorrow

Just a reminder that the REI Super Clearance starts tomorrow. That’s right, the twice a year sale where they take an extra 50% off the clearance price (price ends in .83). Sale is available online and in-store, but to find the real goods your best bet is to go in-store. Yes, I realize REI doesn’t have the selection that some gnarcore need, but after finding an Ortovox D3 beacon on sale for $89 last year I’m a believer.

Burton ‘The B’ teasers

The first two of several teasers for big B’s 2010 movie ‘The B’

The backwards teaser

The bail teaser

Forum ‘Forever’ trailer

I can’t help but think of Biggie groaning ‘and another one’ this time of year (though to be honest this teaser came out at the end of last season). The black & white reminds me of the old Absinthe(?) vid circa-96 or so with the Seattle area Sharpshooters track on it.

The economy and snowboarding

Unemployment is ~11% in the state of Oregon. Portland ranked 46 out of 50 in a ranking of ‘easiest cities to find a job’, ranked below meccas of intelligence and creativity like St. Louis, Sacramento and Buffalo (I’d rather be unemployed in Portland than making 6 figures in Sacramento.  Put that on a shirt). The guys over at Casual Industrees summed up the feelings of many in the below tee.

If you’re one of the other 89%, or just been saving your pennies, don’t forget that the offseason is a great time to pickup new gear on the cheap.

Burton 2010 website launched

God I love this time of year! All the new gear/sites/video teasers/etc. dropping, giving you that little giddiness deep down when you think about snow and powder days.

So you’ve seen the teasers from the trade shows, now head to Burton and see the complete line. Proving that Vermont is immune to any of this recession talk, note that their high-end/no limits board the Method retails for more than my entire backcountry gear setup!

UPDATE: Looks like the 2010 Burton product is hitting online retailers. You can check it out at Snowboard Connection (the OGs of the Seattle snowboard scene, plus John used to support the Surfrider Foundation, good peeps), Backcountry.com, evoGear (Seattle represent again!) and REI.

The 2010 Capita Snowboards lineup

Posted on the Charlie Slasher earlier today, figured I’d finish up the page I started a few months back discussing the whole line of boards Capita is releasing in 2010. I have to admit they’d never been on my radar before as I’d always written them off as the ‘bubble gum pop’ of snowboards (yes, my mid-90s/snowboard scene explosion/new companies every 10 seconds/skepticism is still there…), just appealing to the ‘under 150 lb soaking wet’ park crowd. After watching the videos on each of the boards and seeing their price points (seriously, a good chunk of their line retails under $400) I have to say I like what they are doing and am intrigued to try one on a resort day this year.

Check out the 2010 Capita lineup here.

If you can’t find them locally you can grab ‘em online at evoGear (who also offers free FedEx shipping on orders over $100!) and Snowboard Connection.

2010 Capita Charlie Slasher Pow FK

Saw this post over at Spectre of the Brocken. Sales guy from Capita gives a rundown on the 2010 Capita Charlie Slasher Pow FK (would love to hear the story behind that name). Yeah, it’s summertime, but right now it’s raining outside my window and powder days are always in style. You can also check out some pics of a few more boards in the 2010 Capita line here

If you can’t find the deck at your local shop you can get’er online at evoGear and Snowboard Connection.

2010 Snowboard flick trailers

Yes, it’s summertime and we’ve gotten a bit off-topic. However, that’s about to change as the 2010 snowboard flick teasers are starting to drop. Srs bizns. I wanted to get a post up with links to all the 2010 snow flick trailers so that they are linked in one central place on the site. Yes, that’s me sharing the <3 for you, so tell all your friends and enemies.

Oh yeah, and as everybody and their moms have an HD camera these days, and can edit on their laptop, this page will be constantly updating as I find more teasers. Ping me if you've got one I need to include.
