Just saw that the REI Winter Clearance and Backcountry.com Semi-Annual sale started.
All sorts of avy goodies and other fun stuff on sale. Pretty much every avalanche beacon is 25% off. Shovels by BCA, Voile and and the rest of the usual suspects all around 25% off as well. Definitely worth a look if you’re in the market.

Just got an email that the REI Winter Sale starts today. Did a quick 30 second scan of the sale to see what stood out and noticed they’ve got the BCA Tracker 2 avalanche beacon on sale. Nothing else immediately stood out, but looked like there is quite a bit of last year’s boards, boots, etc. up on the auction block.

Saw this sale today at evo. Some decent pre-season deals on the avalanche trinity beacons/probes/shovels and other backcountry clothing and gear going down at evo. Check it out ‘cuz in another month or so you’ll be boarding the full price train for awhile!

Yup, it’s that time of year again, REI dividend time. And, as usual, they’ve got a 20% off regular price schwag code MEM2011. The fine print is always hit or miss, but it looks like it’s currently working on avalanche beacons.
Ortovox 3+

Pieps DSP

Ortovox S1

It says it works on Novara bikes as well, could be a pretty solid savings if you’re in the market for a Novara (aka bike with a return policy).
Anyways, it’s Friday, hope everyone is doing big things this weekend.

…yeah, again. Some good deals to be had at US Outdoor Store’s sale, and by good deals I mean like $10 more than buying a used one. And yes, I do find it odd that I can get a piece of technology that can make calls, surf the internet and has a built in GPS for less than the price of a piece of electronics that beeps and finds other beeping pieces of circuit board.
Mammut Pulse Barryvox – $359 and change. I’ve seen it for sale used for more than that.

Ortovox Patroller Digital – $239 and comes in circa-2000 iMac colorway.
See through blue, so hot for spring 2011
Ortovox S1 Sensor – $399

Pieps DSP Advanced – $439. Not sure if the ‘Advanced’ references it’s feature set or it’s price range, but it’s on sale if it’s what you’re looking for.

So there ya have it, some avalanche beacons on sale pre-spring touring season. As always check your local shop before spending your money at a web retailer, and if you talk to them they may even price match for you. If you’re in Portland US Outdoor Store IS your local shop so you can silence that nagging voice about keeping your money local.

Just saw that backcountry.com was having a sale (yup, it’s that time of year). Noticed they have quite a few beacons and other miscellaneous avalanche safety schwag on sale. Beacons tend to not follow the rest of the gear – i.e. 50% off sales by March – so anytime they are 25% off or so it’s worth checking if you’re in the market.
BCA Tracker

Mammut Pulse
Probably the highest tech beacon there is

Pieps DSP Advanced Smart
This one is kind of odd to me, it’s the Pieps DSP with some updated features – barometer, thermometer and compass. I just find those features odd for something you’ll be wearing on your chest and under your layers. Otherwise, sick beacon.

They’ve also got the Ortovox 3+, Pieps Freeride, Pieps DSP Smart and Ortovox S1 on sale so click to check ‘em out.
Don’t need a beacon but looking for a deal on a shovel or probe? Yeah, those are on sale as well – though I think Feathered Friends in Seattle has better deals right now if you’re looking for something local and you’re a 206er, and hell they may ship.
Anyways, just a heads up.

Been out of town all week, just a quick heads up that the REI Winter Sale is on and they’ve got a beacon on sale. Ortovox 3+ for $259.99 (regularly $349).

Was just playing around on the REI site and saw the code ‘FALL20′ works to take 20% off beacons. They’ve got the Tracker2, Ortovox 3+, Ortovox S1, Mammut Pulse and a few others in stock.
UPDATE 10/14/11: As this post is still getting traffic but is from an old sale I put a gear finder search box up on the top right rail to help you find any items on sale. Just go up there, type in what you’re looking for and click search and a list of items and prices matching your criteria will show up. Should help you quickly find what you want and at a price you want it at!

Was poking around the interwebs this morn’, seeing if any of the usual shops had the Tracker 2 in stock, and noticed REI has some pretty good deals right now on their beacons. Maybe not the cheapest you can find online (though I didn’t search around to verify), but certainly the cheapest you’ll find at a shop that will stand behind everything they sell. As always give you local shops a chance at the sale before going online. Get a new beacon and get your spring tour on!

NOTE: This is a bit of premature blogulation. Apologize for that, I’ll get you next time baby.
Was just browsing the latest sales flyer from REI, apparently their Winter Sale starts Friday. As part of the sale they’ve got the BCA Tracker avy beacon on sale for a penny short of $230. This is a damn good deal on a dead simple to use beacon.
Yeah, I know some of you are holding out for the (vaporware? Sasquatch?) Tracker 2, but I also know that some of you have been waiting for 2 years for it. If you’re in the market NOW for a beacon and want something that is so easy you could just about give to a 5 year old and they’d figure out how to use it the BCA Tracker is the one. Don’t forget you can order online and have it sent to the stores for free to avoid the REI/pre-Christmas sale crowds at the register.
 $229.99 and it's yours
