Just saw that the REI Winter Clearance and Backcountry.com Semi-Annual sale started. All sorts of avy goodies and other fun stuff on sale. Pretty much every avalanche beacon is 25% off. Shovels by BCA, Voile and and the rest of the usual suspects all around 25% off as well. Definitely worth a look if you’re in the market. Saw athis sale today at evo. Some decent pre-season deals on the avalanche trinity beacons/probes/shovels and other backcountry clothing and gear going down at evo. Beacons tend to not follow the rest of the gear – i.e. 50% off sales by March – so anytime they are 25% off or so it’s worth checking if you’re in the market. This one is kind of odd to me, it’s the Pieps DSP with some updated features – barometer, thermometer and compass. I just find those features odd for something you’ll be wearing on your chest and under your layers. Otherwise, sick beacon.

Yeah, those are on sale as well – though I think Feathered Friends in Seattle has better deals right now if you’re looking for something local and you’re a 206er, and hell they may ship. Anyways, just a heads up. Was looking for a cheap steelhead fly setup this morn and saw some cheap shovels at Sierra Trading Post. I’ve never actually bought from them so can’t vouche for how quick they ship, return policy, etc. but they’ve been around for years so are likely just as legit as the rest of the big online retailers. Also, seems like just about every day they’ve got an additional 20 to 25% off coupon code on their site so make sure you doublecheck before you pull the trigger. Of the shovels the Ortovox and Komperdell below seemed the most interesting – mostly because plastic blades scare me. Here's a shovel, can you dig it fool? Anyways, yeah, UW 24-7 over FUCLA the other night, suck it and get a shovel. More BC on a budget stuff, and at risk of sounding like an REI whore (hey, I’m a sucker for someone that stands behind their products), I got an email in my inbox this morn’ with a code for 20% off a regular priced item at REI. Coupon code ‘FALLDEAL’. Just tested it out and it WORKS on avalanche beacons (a man, I checked and it won’t work on the split kit). Beacons tend to not go on sale much so if you need one buy it now so you’re not kicking yourself in November/December thinking how you could have saved $50-100.
